Nomex® is a fire resistent cloth, which is why it works great for for fire supression Underneath your launch pad. While it normally isn't needed for most rockets, it adds a level of protection and safety when you're launching in hot weather or when the grass beneath the pad is brown and dry. We also recommend them if you are using a launch pad that puts the rocket engine closer to the ground.
The blankets are very simple to use. Just spread it out under the pad. If it is breezy, you can place a couple of rocks on the corners to prevent it from being blown around.
For larger areas, you can get multiple pieces and simply overlap them.
