Spring Steel Rocket Engine Hooks

Engine Hook Specifications:

Material: "Spring" Steel. Heat treated, and plated with silver.
Thickness: .024 inch
Width: 0.125 inch

Hold your rocket engine securely inside the tube with these metal engine hooks. Made from high strength spring steel, so they are durable and extremely stiff and rigid. Unlike cheaper hooks made from stainless steel, these won't kink when you bend them back to insert or remove the rocket engine from the model. They always spring back to shape.

That means your engines will stay in place, and won't accidentally pop out when the engine's ejection charge fires off.

But since spring steel is dull looking, we've gone to the extra expense of having these plated with silver to give them a great appearance and to resist corrosion. They look as great as stainless steel hooks, but are much stronger and resist permanent bending.

Even though they are far more expensive for us to make, compare our prices against those inferior stainless steel hooks. You'll save money by buying from Apogee Components!

What is it used for?

The engine hook is the device inside the rocket that holds the engine in place. It restrains the motor from sliding aft out of the rocket when the ejection charge of the motor pushes the parachute out. Without the engine hook, the engine would pop out instead of the nose blowing off the forward end of the rocket.

Engine mounts are easy to make. Basically they consist of the engine mount tube, the engine hook, some centering rings to hold the engine mount tube in the rocket, and an engine block (not shown) that prevents the engine from sliding forward in the engine mount tube.

If you need help designing an engine mount for your project, see the Apogee Peak-of-Flight newsletter (issue #104) for detailed pictures and instructions.

Actual Customer Comment:

"I found the RockSim demo easy to install and it was no problem getting started using the program. What did I think? It's as much fun (and addicting) as the best video games! What did I learn? That I can't get along without it. I placed my order for the full CD version last night. I can hardly wait to try some flight simulations." -- Stephen P. Scott
