The video-book instructions for the Saturn V kit is much, much more than just a series of steps on how to put together the rocket. It shows a lot of advanced construction techniques that can be used on any model rocket.
After my first video book that described how to build "simple" rockets came out (see: "Building Skill Level 1 Model Rocket Kits"), I was asked by a lot of people to do more of them that explain the skills needed for complex models. The Saturn V kit certainly does fall into this category.
The Saturn V instruction manual is stuffed full of useful information. In fact, the CD-ROM is nearly completely full. It contains over 4 hours of how-to video!
You’ll learn the important methods of making large rockets that are light weight -- but yet incredibly strong. Here are some of the many skills you’ll learn:
- How to use CyA glue properly, so that you get maximum benefit from the adhesive.
- Cutting large diameter tubes.
- Assembling delicate plastic parts.
- Working with thin vacuum form plastic wraps.
- Making custom fit tube couplers.
- Creating perfect fitting paper transition sections.
- Strengthening parts without adding hardly any weight.
- Proper use of specialized construction tools.
- More painting techniques than are shown in the Building Skill Level 1 Model Rocket Kits video book.
- Masking complex color/paint patterns.
- Applying water-slide decals
- Creating gorilla-strong shock cord mounts.
- Using customized pattern sheets as tools to perfectly position parts on the rocket.
- Making inexpensive centering rings from common household items.
- Carving wood shapes from balsa wood.
- Repairing damaged parts.
- Applying filler to parts with gaps in them.
and much, much more...
Note: Since the videos will be on a CD-ROM, the picture size, picture quality, and the sound clarity will be much better than this little sample below.
