I want to thank you for your remarkable support of student science fairs. My son found the Apogee Components web site while doing initial research to design a science fair project that would involve model rockets. Little did we know the extent of what you would contribute to his learning.
Of course we appreciated Apogee's personal attention, prompt service and quality informational materials. However, the most exciting discovery was your book 69 Science Fair Projects with Model Rockets. The ideas were thought provoking and helped John design and execute his investigation.
The excitement for me was your chapter "Science Fair Projects Basics." The guidance provided explains the often confused differences between scientific demonstrations and investigations following proper scientific method. Many times I have felt sorry for a student who obviously worked hard on a demonstration project rather than an investigation. Their failure was the result of not understanding the task and its proper process. Sometimes this failure was fostered by well intentioned but erroneous advice.
The clarity of your step-by-step explanations from selecting a topic to the oral presentation and evaluation is very understandable. This chapter of your book ought to be required reading for all teachers, parents and students involved in science fair projects. The balance of the book provides with concrete ideas for execution of a successful science fair project.
Sincerely,
Susan M. Laue
