Kevlar® Shock Cord

The shock cord is what is used to tie the nose cone to the body of the rocket, so that it can come off the rocket, but not get lost. You only want to track one thing coming down to the ground, right?

We carry cord made from Kevlar®, which is stronger than steel, but flexible and heat resistant. So, it can easily take the scorching heat of the rocket engine ejection charge. We recommend the shock cord in your rocket be a minimum of three times the length of the model. Longer is better, as that will help prevent zippering, which is a tearing of the tube by the cord cutting into the paper. A long cord allows the nose cone to slow down and prevent it from cutting the tube.

Besides the always prompt shipping, kevlar cord is the way to go minimally for your shock cord anchor because it can handle the high heat from ejection. You can have it reach just outside the body tube, and attach an elastic cord there, or simply make it long enough and it can be the shock cord.

Very excellent shock cord for low, mid, and even high powered rockets. I give it 5 stars for its quality and excellent performance.

This particular brand is softer and more flexible than others. I love it for mid power cardboard kits, and that's what I keep buying it for. I don't like it much for smaller fiberglass kits. It was strong enough to survive an almost-to-the-ground late deployment on a two pound glass kit, but it frayed halfway through where the body tube rubbed against it. It's still a great product for a specific use, and that use is anything cardboard between half a pound and two pounds.

Tim has all good top of products. Haven't gotten anything disappointing, and all is top quality. I especially like the rocksim software.
